Custom Framing for Pieces That Deserve a Careful Process
Movie Poster Works provides appointment-only custom framing for posters, artwork, photographs, paper collectibles, display objects, and meaningful pieces in Houston, Texas.
Bring the piece, the story, and any concerns. We will talk through design, preservation, materials, and display goals in person.
Custom framing at Movie Poster Works begins with the object itself. Before selecting a frame, mat, glazing, or mounting method, we take time to understand what the piece is, why it matters, how it will be displayed, and whether there are condition or preservation concerns that should guide the project.
This process is appointment-only so each project can be reviewed with proper attention. The goal is not to rush a decision. The goal is to arrive at a framing approach that looks right, protects what matters, and respects the piece.
Every framing decision flows from the object — not from a predetermined package or a catalog of stock options.
What to Expect
Six Steps from Inquiry to Completion
Each project moves through a deliberate sequence — designed to ensure that design, preservation, and presentation decisions are made thoughtfully and in the right order.
1
Initial Contact
You tell us what you are framing, what matters about it, and whether there are any condition, value, display, or deadline concerns. This gives us context before we meet.
2
Condition Review
Before design decisions are made, we look at the item's material, surface, size, condition, prior mounting, backing, folds, signatures, or other details that may affect the framing approach.
3
Preliminary Design Direction
We discuss early design concepts based on the piece, the room, the story, and the preservation goals — covering frame style, matting, scale, glazing, spacing, and presentation.
4
In-Person Design Session
The in-person session is where the project becomes specific. We look at moulding, matting, glazing, mounting, proportions, and finishing details together with the actual piece in hand.
5
Materials & Methods
The framing package is selected around the piece — moulding, matting, mounting approach, glazing, spacing, backing, hardware, and finishing details chosen for this specific object.
6
Completion & Pickup
Once the project is completed, we review the finished piece together and discuss handling, installation, display, and basic long-term care before it leaves the studio.
Design & Preservation
Design & Preservation Decisions
A successful framing project is built from a series of connected decisions. Each choice should support the piece visually while also considering condition, handling, display environment, and future care.
Moulding
Frame profile, scale, finish, depth, and character should support the piece rather than overpower it. The right moulding is often quiet.
Matting
Mat color, proportion, reveal, depth, and material selection affect both presentation and preservation. Margins matter more than most clients expect.
Mounting
Mounting methods are selected with the item's material, surface, weight, condition, and reversibility in mind. Some pieces require no adhesive contact at all.
Glazing
Glazing choices may include UV-filtering, anti-reflective, or museum-quality options depending on the piece, the room, and the desired viewing experience.
Spacing
Proper spacing between the item and glazing reduces contact risk, surface transfer, and condensation-related concerns over time.
Finishing
Backing, sealing, hardware, hanging method, and final construction details all contribute to how the piece performs and holds up over time.
Turnaround Times
Custom framing is not always a same-week service — especially when a project involves specialty materials, preservation considerations, large formats, or object and shadowbox work.
Turnaround depends on project complexity, material availability, design decisions, vendor lead times, and current studio workload. If you have a deadline, tell us early so we can discuss whether it is realistic before the project begins.
Deadline-sensitive projects should be mentioned at first contact — before design decisions are finalized or materials are ordered.
Pricing
How Pricing Works
Custom framing reflects the time, materials, design judgment, and handling required to do the work properly. Movie Poster Works is not built around discount framing, preset packages, or the cheapest available solution.
Pricing depends on size, materials, moulding, matting, glazing, mounting method, project complexity, and any special handling required. The right solution depends on the object, its condition, its importance, and how it should be displayed.
If you have a specific budget range or cost concern, please mention it when you first contact us. That helps determine whether the project is a good fit before an in-person consultation is scheduled. Thoughtful trade-offs are sometimes possible, but cutting corners is not the goal.
Factors That Affect Project Cost
Size and format of the piece
Moulding selection and profile
Matting design and complexity
Glazing choice and specifications
Mounting method and reversibility requirements
Object or shadowbox complexity
Special handling or preservation concerns
Materials
Materials & Suppliers
Movie Poster Works works with professional framing materials and established suppliers for moulding, matboard, glazing, backing, hardware, and finishing components. Specific vendors and product lines may be discussed during the design process when they are relevant to the project.
The emphasis is not on selling a brand name. The emphasis is on selecting materials that make sense for the object, the design, and the long-term display goal. A well-chosen set of materials should be nearly invisible — the piece should be what you see.
Moulding & Matboard
Selected for character, proportion, and compatibility with the piece — not catalog convenience.
Glazing & Backing
UV-filtering, anti-reflective, and museum-grade options available depending on project requirements.
Hardware & Finishing
Construction details that support the piece structurally and aesthetically over the long term.
Project Examples
The Kinds of Projects We Are Built For
Every project is different, but these examples reflect the kinds of framing conversations Movie Poster Works is built for. The common thread is a piece that matters — and a framing process that takes that seriously.
Original Movie Poster
A vintage one-sheet with fold lines, age toning, and display goals that require careful material and mounting decisions. Condition and reversibility guide the design conversation from the start.
Concert or Event Poster
A poster connected to a meaningful show, performance, or artist — framed to preserve the memory without overwhelming the artwork. The design should honor what the piece represents.
Family Photograph or Inherited Piece
A photograph, document, or personal item framed with understated design and materials selected for long-term care. These projects often call for restraint and precision over decoration.
Collected Object or Memorabilia
A signed item, backstage pass, small prop, promotional object, or event-related piece presented in a shadowbox or dimensional framing package. Object depth and arrangement are part of the design.
Outside Specialists
Restoration, Valuation & Outside Specialists
Some projects raise questions beyond framing. Restoration needs can be discussed during the consultation, and when appropriate, Movie Poster Works can coordinate with qualified outside specialists. We will be straightforward about what falls within the studio's scope and what warrants a referral.
Movie poster valuation and market context may also be part of the conversation — particularly for vintage one-sheets and significant collectibles. Formal appraisals are not the primary service, but the subject is not off-limits when it is relevant to how a project should be approached.
When a project requires expertise outside our scope, we will say so directly and help connect you with the right resource.
